The shadow self represents our denied or dark side, which many of us view negatively. However, embracing and exploring this part of ourselves is crucial for spiritual fulfillment. Neglecting our undesirable traits prevents us from being whole, and it is important to address the root of these negative traits rather than deny them.
In terms of self-esteem, issues like low self-esteem or self-absorption are rooted in the belief of not being good enough and seeking validation from others. It is important to revisit the memories that created these extreme feelings and address them by meeting your younger self, showing them that they are worthy.
Additionally, we often deny ourselves things that bring us joy because we deem them unimportant or impractical. However, it is crucial to prioritize the things we love and find fulfillment outside of our careers. Forgiving ourselves for past hurts and traumas is also necessary for wholeness, as is integrating our light and darkness.
Embracing our darkness and working through our pain and joy allows us to be truly whole. This process is beautifully summarized by Carl Jung’s quote, “How can I be substantial if I do not cast a shadow? I must have a dark side also if I am to be whole.”
