Before performing any spellwork, it is essential to cleanse your magical tools. The success of your spell or ritual depends on the thoroughness of your tools’ cleansing. To illustrate, imagine a paper that has been written on and then erased, but you can still see the faint outlines of the previous writing. When you write on the paper again, the message is unclear to the reader. This is similar to not properly cleansing your altar tools, which can result in unclear energy and unsatisfactory results from your spell or ritual.
Cleansing your tools is also important for aligning your vibration with your tools and your intention. Select a cleansing method that resonates with you. In my opinion, there is no superior method; it is a matter of personal preference.
Here are several methods for cleansing your tools:
1. Smoke cleansing: Use incense, bundles, candles, controlled fire, or any other method that produces smoke. Pass the smoke over your tools or place them near the smoke to remove any negative or residual energy. Ensure that your space is well-ventilated with the windows open to allow the smoke and energy to leave.
2. Saltwater: Soak your non-porous or rust-resistant tools in salt water overnight, or for several hours, depending on the energy surrounding them. Ensure that the water is disposed of down the sink and not outside to avoid harm to plants and animals.
3. Sound: Use singing bowls, bells, instruments, songs, meditative music, or a self-created rhythm to cleanse your tools. Visualize the sound waves lifting the energy surrounding your tools and carrying it away.
4. Crystals: Place crystals around your tools to clear the energy. You can leave them overnight or pass the crystals over your tools. Remember to cleanse the crystals before using them to cleanse anything else.
Remember, there is no perfect or right way to cleanse your altar tools. Use whatever method resonates with you, as your power comes from within, and you direct the flow of your magic.
