If You're on A Spiritual Path, They Think You're the Problem. Here's Why!
Hi everyone! I’m Maestra Wyzdom DVine, your friendly neighborhood Shamanic Healer, and I’m so excited to be featured as a guest contributor on this amazing blog! Terra is super awesome, and I’m always so grateful to have her energy on my feed (especially because I have no idea how 70% of the other people got there Lol)!
As a Shamanic, Healer, Instructor, and Mentor I have experienced both directly and indirectly through students and clients, the conflict that comes with being a lightworker, starseed, a witchy person, intuitive, etc. It seems as though having any kind of higher purpose or being on spiritual path flips the “1600’s witch hunter” switch on in those around us. And when that isn’t happening, we are in competitions with people that we never consented to.
Feeling like you’re on a spiritual path or have a higher calling, can be exciting after experiencing years of inner turmoil. Most of us have an awakening after spending a lifetime wondering why we felt so different and out of place. However, this excitement can quickly be replaced by the isolation that comes with experiencing conflict and tense energy from family members and friends.
It’s true that, in many cases, this perceived negativity can actually just be a misunderstanding. But the sadly, at times people are just plain triggered by the “new” you. As disheartening as this may be, there are reasons for all of the tension.
Here are 5 reasons why, as a person with a higher calling, folks think YOU’RE the problem.
1. The New You Isn’t Who They Are Used To:
Embracing a spiritual path often results in a transformative personal journey. For family and friends, this change can be disconcerting as they navigate the shift from the familiar to the unknown. The ‘new you’ may not align with the person they once knew, causing a sense of unease as they grapple with an evolving identity that challenges their established perceptions.
2. Your Work, Efforts, and Evolution Make Them Uncomfortable:
Dedication to spiritual work and personal growth can inadvertently evoke discomfort among loved ones. The visible commitment to change and healing may subtly imply that these processes are essential, a realization that some may not be ready to confront. The discomfort arises from the perception that your journey necessitates a parallel introspection on their part.
3. Your Heightened Sensitivity and Intuition Make Them Feel Vulnerable:
Spiritual paths often lead to heightened sensitivity and intuition. While this can be empowering for the individual on the journey, it may make family and friends feel vulnerable and exposed. The sense that you can perceive aspects of their lives that they may not be ready to share can create discomfort, fostering a hesitancy to open up fully in your presence.
4. Cognitive Dissonance:
The adoption of spiritual beliefs may introduce cognitive dissonance within interpersonal relationships. Divergence in worldviews can cause discomfort as your evolving beliefs challenge the established perspectives of family and friends. This disjunction in beliefs creates a cognitive conflict, contributing to the overall sense of unease.
5. Jealousy Due to Unrecognized Hardships:
Observing your spiritual accomplishments without recognizing the accompanying hardships may trigger jealousy among family and friends. The failure to acknowledge the challenges you faced on your spiritual journey can create a perceived disparity. Jealousy arises when they see achievements but are unaware of the resilience and perseverance required to attain them, contributing to an uneasy dynamic.
While constantly being painted out to be the “trouble maker” can be exhausting and isolating, it’s important to remember that we aren’t alone. Even though I joke that all my friends live on the internet, it does help to know that I have found others like me that can relate to these struggles. Finding others that you can laugh with, share content with, and sometimes vent to can have an enormous effect on your burnt out nervous system. It can also make it safe for you to cut cords with those who are determined to make you the villain in their story.
